Couples & Family Counseling
Often psychological distress can be attributed to relationship difficulties among partners, parents, and children. I work to help couples and families see the relationship patterns that cause distress; name them in ways that encourage change, develop new, mutually supportive ways of relating so that all members can meet their unique developmental challenges, and then practice this change in the interest of individual and collective growth.
Gender Transition Support
Supporting someone's journey to align their gender and their body is one of the honors of my professional work. I conduct brief diagnostic interviews, screen for a variety of mental health concerns, and write referral letters for gender-confirming hormone treatments and surgeries based on the World Professional Association For Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care. I can also support name and gender-marker changes. When possible, I provide individual and family counseling so that clients can feel accepted and affirmed as they are.
Individual Counseling
Our attachment relationships have a profound effect on the way we relate to others and ourselves. When working with an individual client, I make sure to consider these influences, help clients create a coherent narrative about how their experiences have affected their development, and support them as they apply fresh insight to relieve their suffering and promote their well-being in the here-and-now.
Interprofessional Consultation
As an experienced clinician, supervisor, and counselor educator, I welcome opportunities to consult with peers within professional counseling as well as other allied professions (e.g., clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, psychiatry, etc.). Dilemmas related to professional ethics, mental health diagnosis, family systems, and gender identity development, among others, are welcome.
